Discussion Topic God's Sudden Personality Change as Seen in the Bible
by charlie brown jr. inok i'm sure this has been talked to death... but since we have a thread saying we're missing a good debate here we go..... when the bible meant something to me way back when .....even then i pondered.... god starts off as this vengeful being..."listen to me or i'll lay your soul to waste".
to his enemies ....keep your distance or you will feel the wrath of yahweh or if i want what you have ....best leave now unless any of you men wanna die.
then overnight.. he is patient, loving, kind, his son says love they neighbor.

my belief is the bible as a whole is jewish mythology and history mixed together.
the vengeful jehovah was good for the tribal jews/isrealites. after their captivity and intro to greek philosophy led them to soften up their god into a moreacceptable diety.

suicide and wts funeral rules
by diamondiiz ini just found out that a husband of an old friend committed a suicide and i was wondering if there are any letters to elders or any wts rules concerning funerals for those who committed suicide.
i've looked in the elders book and letters to boe index and didn't find anything.
some posts here say they can have the funeral at the kh and some here said they couldn't hold it there because suicide was involved.

May seem weird but here are some of my favorite quotes on death.
The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. ~Mark Twain
A man's dying is more the survivors' affair than his own. ~Thomas Mann, The Magic Mountain
They tell us that suicide is the greatest piece of cowardice... that suicide is wrong; when it is quite obvious that there is nothing in the world to which every man has a more unassailable title than to his own life and person. ~Arthur Schopenhauer
Death may be the greatest of all human blessings. ~Socrates
Death is a delightful hiding place for weary men. ~Herodotus
Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live. ~Norman Cousins
To die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly. Death of one's own free choice, death at the proper time, with a clear head and with joyfulness, consummated in the midst of children and witnesses: so that an actual leave-taking is possible while he who is leaving is still there. ~Friedrich Nietzsche, Expeditions of an Untimely Man
To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.— Albus Dumbledore
Though Death searched for many long years, he was unable to find Ignotus, who successfully hid from Death for a good many years using the Cloak of Invisibility. Finally, when he was a ripe old age and had lived a long and happy life, Ignotus decided to take off the Cloak of Invisibility and gave it to his son. Ignotus then greeted Death as an old friend, and together they departed this world as equals. ~The Tale of the Three Brothers
I knew a man who once said, "death smiles at us all; all a man can do is smile back." ~From the movie Gladiator
No one knows whether death is really the greatest blessing a man can have, but they fear it is the greatest curse, as if they knew well. ~Plato
Suicide is man's way of telling God, "You can't fire me - I quit." ~Bill Maher, on Politically Incorrect, 1995
Suicide is... the sincerest form of criticism life gets. ~Wilfred Sheed, The Good Word, 1978
Death is a release from the impressions of sense, and from impulses that make us their puppets, from the vagaries of the mind, and the hard service of the flesh. ~Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
When I die I shall be content to vanish into nothingness.... No show, however good, could conceivably be good forever.... I do not believe in immortality, and have no desire for it. ~H.L. Mencken
And they die an equal death - the idler and the man of mighty deeds. ~Homer, Iliad
Death a friend that alone can bring the peace his treasures cannot purchase, and remove the pain his physicians cannot cure. ~Mortimer Collins -

Well it's time for me to say goodbye!
by sabastious inmy priorities in my life have recently changed fundamentally.
i have always, deep down, felt a yearning for the circus.
my teachers growing up would always catch me doodling picutres of the circus with me in them being a jolly circus laborer.

Pilate's wife
by Terry inthis seems like a literary device by a later author added to the story of jesus.. matthew 27:19: while pilate was sitting in the judgment hall, his wife sent him a message: "have nothing to do with that innocent man, because in a dream last night, i suffered much on account of him.".
how would any apostle or follower of jesus know the contents of a private letter written to pontius pilate by his wife?.
how many followers of jesus were in the same room with jesus and pilate?

Not to thread jack but Tec how much speculation does it take before the smell test is failed?
Like the link I posted and the other discussion on the book of Genesis, the bible continues to have 'literary devices' as terry put it that just falls out of line with common sense.
Back to topic if indeed pilates wife wrote such a letter Why did he ignore her? If john was in the room (tho I believe you mean courtyard) how could he know about a letter and its contents? If pilate discussed the letter he must not have thought much of his wifes premenition.

I mentioned his wife in this post, but never thought about how the gospel writers would be privy to this info good point.
